    Remembering apps between sessions

I recently updated from 14.10 to 15.10 and discovered a rather annoying "feature" of the new KDE. In 14.10 I was able to set up a Dolphin window with several tabs pointing to folders that I commonly access and a terminal window with a couple of tabs in folders that I commonly run command line apps from. I could log out and back in and KDE would remember these things and start them up for me again as if I'd never left.

In 15.10, it kills every thing off when I leave and I nave to start from scratch at the beginning of each session. Is there a way to change this behavior to match the way it worked before?

    Thanks

Have you checked to see if On Login (System Settings > Startup and Shutdown > Desktop Session) is maybe no longer marked as Restore previous session?
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

It is checked. I wonder - I normally shut down the computer at the end of the day instead of logging out of the session (which is the same thing I did in 14.10) first. I wonder if I log out first and then shut down, will it restore as I expect. I think I'll try this and report back.

Thanks for pointing this out as I didn't know where this setting was.

Sure enough, when I log out first, and then reboot it restores some of the apps that were loaded when I logged out. It fails to restore Dolphin for some reason. This seems like a bug to me.

Here, running 16.04, the behavior you are wanting with Dolphin open with multiple tabs is working. I set On Login to Restore previous session, opened Dolphin and opened two folders in separate tabs then shutdown/restarted. Dolphin launched with the tabs I had opened previously.

So, I did some searching in the KDE bug reporting system and it appears that there is an outstanding bug related to this. It can be found at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=353548

That bug points to a deeper problem with Qt that can be found at https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-49667
