same wallpaper for different users

I installed Kubuntu 15.10, and afterwards ! add a second user.
In my original account I installed an additional wallpaper to replace the default one.
When I do this, Kubuntu installs this wallpaper in /home/marc/.loca l/share/wallpaper
I copied this wallpaper to /home/2nduser/.local/share/wallpaper

Now I log in as 2nduser, but I don't have the same wallpapers as for my primariy user account.
The source of the wallpapers here seems to be /usr/local/wallpapers.
I only see directories there
When I copy my desired wallpaper there, it does not show up in the wallpaper selection.
I also tried to install the desired wallpaper via system settings when logged in as 2nduser,
when I do that, I get a message the the existing file will be overwritten

How can I give 2nduser the wallpaper I installed for my primary user account ?

The problem is not how do I change a wallpaper.

The problem is that the second user is presented with a totally diiferent set of wallpaper choices than the first user.

No luck with the skel solution, I guess things work a little different in kde5.
Another thing I tried: create a new user, copy my entire home directory to the home dir of the new user and change recursively the ownership of these files --> no luck either

It looks like the first user, created when installing Kubuntu gets a special config, that is different from the users that are created afterwards.

skel will only affect new user accounts, or ones with old configs wiped, anyway, and the config directories/file paths used would have to match the ones in plasma, which are no longer the ~/.kde folder.

You probably need a script that discovers all user accounts, goes into each one's ~/.config/plasmarc, and edits the usersWallpapers line to the specific wallpaper.

Or would replacing the default one(or ones - there are multiple sizes for the default wallpaper), saving your desired one to replace the stock one, found in /usr/share/wallpapers/Next/content/images

KDE4 was much easier, you just select a jpg file and set it as wallpaper.
In KDE5 you need to create a directory with the name of the wallpaper,
in that directory put a file named metadata subdirectory contents
in that subdirectoryand a subdirectory named contents and a small size picture of the wallpaper
in that contents subdirectory the actual wallpaper in different sizes.
What a hassle for a simple wallpaper, I think I'll leave it as it is.

KDE5 is supposed to be easier than KDE4 ......pfff I dissagree

Testing at here:

- copying a jpeg to the another user wallpapers folder ~/.local/share/wallpapers/.
- copying two jpegs to the system wallpaper folder /usr/share/wallpapers/.

Log out - log in to the another user. All wallpapers are available to the another user.




If not working:

- the image permissions are wrong ?
- the system configuration cache is not updating ? -> try to run 'kbuildsycoca5 --noincremental' as another user.
- you have a broken system ? -> examine the systemd journal

SOLVED: same wallpaper for different users

Hi Linkbot.

Copying the files did not do the trick (I already did that) but .... the permission on the files were wrong.
The files were owned by root (copied them with Krusader in root mode) but marked as forbidden for other users.
Once I changed them as read only for everyone, I could set them as wallpapers for other users.

Thanks for putting me on the right track.

While searching for a solution for this, I discovered howto start multiple X sessions at the same time,
so I don't need to logout and login all the time tho switch users.
- go to a terminal session using CTRL-ALT-F1
- login as the user you want
- type startx -- :1
- change between sessions with CTRL-ALT-F1 (second user session) and CTRL-ALT-F7 (original session)
This saved me a lot of time, so I thought I'd share it here.
