    Afterglow xbox 360 controler

I am trying to get my Afterglow Xbox 360 controller to work. I installed the new ppa to get the new steam version of xpad with:
    Code:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mdeslaur/steamos
When I try to install the new xpad:
    Code:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mdeslaur/steamos
    I get
    Code:
E: Unable to locate package steamos-xpad-dkms
Is there no version for 15.10 or what? If there is no directory for 15.10 then please add one so I can hopefully get this working.Thank you.
Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

After adding the ppa, did you update the package cache before attempting to install the indicated package?
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

No, the ppa only has packages for Precise and Trusty

Yes. I always do that. I figure everyone should do that when they add a new repo.

Any idea when they will add 15.10 packages? I bought this because the guy at Gamestop said that it would work with Steam. Unfortunately the Linux xpad doesn’t see the AFTERGLOW properly. I am not the only one other people say their AFTERGLOW controller's doesn't work correctly in Ubuntu. They work fine in Windows. I don't want to use an inferior OS.

Right this very second my controllers big xbox button is flashing a solid green ring. All four quadrants are flashing green.

You'd have to ask the person who created the ppa.

I am gonna guess that support for these devices might have been added to more recent kernels, as I see little information on troubleshooting things past 14.04, and brief anecdotal mention of t5hings working in newer kernels. SteamOS is Debian Jessie based, and is much closer to Trusty in it's kernel and drivers, so the person at gamestop is probably speaking of the OS, not what you run on your Linux desktop.

What have you done or tried to determine that you need the ppa for controller support?

I tried using it with Steam but only the B button and joysticks would work. I also tried with wine so I could try Overlord and got the same results. I tried Borderlands II in steam for Linux. Xpad sees it but can't calibrate it or set up properly.

have you looked in KDE's System Settings for configuration, or more aptly, Steam's controller settings? I think you have to be in Big Picture mode for that. Also, do your steam games actually support using the controller? It seems many do not.

I can't help much, as I am a terrible gamer, and can't get the hang of a controller as opposed to a kb/mouse, so I don't own such a device to test.

That's how I know that KDE sees it but can't calibrate it. When I click calibrate it errors and says no such device even though it clearly sees the device. Steam doesn’t seem to see the controller probably because Kubuntu isn't setting it up properly.

I just sent an email to the guy that maintains the PPA.

That's what I have been using since xpad doesn’t work. Xboxdrv works but I haven't figured it all out yet. I can get it working for Don't starve but Borderlands 2 Doesn’t see it at all. Borderlands 2 is supposed to work with a controller. I am going to take another look at the ubuntu thread I found that tells how to get xboxdrv to work. Some of their instructions don't work exactly the way they say. I don't know if that's a KDE thing or maybe their instructions are old and need updating but I figured some things out so I will see if I can get further. It may be that after I figure out how to make the changes automatic at boot then maybe things will work better.

This post got duplicated. There dose not appear to be a way to delete a post. That seems to me to be a bit strange as almost all forums let you delete your posts.

I was unable to get this to work at boot up. Every time I reboot I have to go thru everything again. I have to rerun xboxdrv then recalibrate. I did get Borderlands @ to see the controller. Unfortunately Maya keeps looking up at the sky but everything else seems to work. I can't play if i'm looking at the sky all the time! Too bad I can't post on that Ubuntu thread.
