Another day, another software failure requiring another complete fresh reinstall of Kubuntu 15.04
This time it was the oxygen theme that was trying to overwrite its own settings doohickey that already existed in another of the packages from the same suite, so wouldn't upgrade to the same version as the rest of the software. The package has just been sitting there failing to upgrade for a week and causing the muon updater to stop before finishing updating the other packages (like kernels and what have you - I think it had upgraded them, but not run the post-upgrade scripts) so lawks only knows what that quietly broke in the background.
I tried to fix the problem and it has just made matters worse, to the point where I no longer have a desktop that I can log in to.
So I've booted off the install stick and am currently backing up my ~ and fstab and customised grub entries in preparation to a fresh reinstall again.
I've been using Kubuntu for 5 years and this version has been the most problematic for me. I hope the next one restores some of the former greatness of the distro; I like Ubuntu and love KDE and don't want to leave them, but I can't be doing with having to reinstall from scratch every month or two.
