vivid install upgraded from utopic has desktop effects not available in clean install

    Hi all

I've used the Invert Window desktop effect almost every day for years; I view KFN with it. It's not given as an option in a clean install of Vivid, but to my very pleasant surprise, it's there and works in the install I upgraded from Utopic (via do-release-upgrade).

Does anyone know what's involved in copying the effect from one install to another? To run at all the upgraded Vivid needs a workaround that has been reported to no longer work with plasma 5.3, so I fear it might die at some time.

Looks like you need invert.desktop and invert_config.desktop which is found in /usr/share/kde4/services/kwin/

Cannot say if that is all you need, or if it will work right in plasma 5.

Thank you, I've copied those files, and added invertEnabled=true to the Plugins section of ~.config/kwinrc, but it's still not available.

Where did you copy them to? It will be a different location in plasma 5.

Plasma 5.4 will have this, I already do in wily, and 5.4 beta-something.

To the same place where they are functional in the other install with plasma 5.

Glad to hear that. QtCurve widget controls are coming too, if I read the buzz correctly.

Maybe I'll upgrade the clean vivid install to wily. The chance of getting something that doesn't run would be high, though.
