Can't choose custom icon in KDE Menu Editor

Frustrating. I've done a manual install of Double Commander by extracting its archive and putting it into a special folder named "manualinstalls." The Konsole commands to install this app in 14.04 don't work for some reason in 15.04. No biggie. The app runs via the manual install. I was able to add it to the program launcher via the KDE Menu Editor, and it also runs. However, I cannot get it to let me use the program's included png file as the icon. I can't use any icon that isn't already listed.

I right click and choose Edit Applications; the KDE Menu Editor comes up.
Then I go to Utilities ==> Double Commander (where I've put it into the launcher)
Then I click on that box to pull up the menu for selecting icons. First, it lists System icons, which I don't want, so I click on the radio button "Other icons". I also don't want those, so I click on Browse. Here's where it's frustrating. The Browse button does not browse. No menu for browsing comes up as it does in Kubuntu 14.04 and earlier.
Is this a bug or is there something I'm missing?

Is there some way I could put the png file into "System icons" or "Other icons" so that I can choose it from the menu?
Kubuntu 22.04 (desktop & laptop), Windows 7 &2K (via VirtualBox on desktop PC)

It must be a 15.04 problem. I am running Plasma 5 on an Arch guest OS and editing the menu, inserting a new item and browsing for and selecting a foreign graphic icon works beautifully. Youart-Gui ran perfectly.

You likely need to add the kubuntu-backports ppa to get updated plasma/frameworks/etc

It is working just fine here.

I had a problem early on with Plasma 5 file browse buttons. I was missing a kio file. I don't remember which one, but IIRC there are only 4 or 5 of them.

        +1 on claydoh's backports suggestion.

It doesn't work for me either. I'm currently running 15.04, KDE Plasma 5.3.1, Qt 5.4.1
The bug has been reported and it's marked as fixed. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=346316 There is also a workaround mentioned in the comments that may work for you (I haven't tried it yet).

I have good news to report. After adding the backports and doing several updates, it's finally working. I'm finally able to browse to a custom icon in the menu editor.

However, I still can't seem to put a quick launch icon in the panel.
