    Python-Qt challenge!

    Greetings all

I've been trying to (re-)install poptray-minus. This is the only mail checker I can find that queries the server - others let it all into the mbox files and report these changes, by which time anything nasty is already in place to do its dirty work... It works beautifully on 12.04, but Kubi15.04 is MISSING python-central, and the old one won't install. The other requirement is python-qt4 which is there and up-to-date. It's working beautifully on latest raspbian.

The challenge is to have a bright spark find what functions poptray-minus uses from python-central and find equivalent functionality elsewhere in supported code, updating the poptray-minus code to something installable and functional in 15.04 (and hopefully ongoing...).

I have other 'wish-list' items should the above come to pass: a list-box for accounts available locally (browse?), check-box selectable, and auto-config of details from these, invocation of appropriate mailer per such account (not everyone uses just one mailer, though I do) ...

Anyone up for it? Python-qt team?

    Hopefully..

As I mentioned in thr other thread, have you tried manually installing the python-central from Precise?
    http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise-u...python-central

python-central seems to be totally independant from any particular Python version, as far as I can tell from my very brief research.
I installed that, using dpkg, then installed poptray-minus, which pulls in python-qt4. It runs, at least the menu entry opens up the email server configuration. I don't have an email account that I access using pop3 so I can't check it just yet.

Well, it seems to work here just fine.

it feels a bit pokey/slow to update/reload, but that could be because it's pop, and also it is a throwaway outlook.com email.

Thanks claydoh. Don't know what I was doing wrong - I had all downloaded and I thought I'd installed them (sudo dpkg -i ...) but doing so now got it all up and running! Heaven on planet Dexy

Wish list still stands, plus a Setting to enable 'Hide in System Tray' (with auto-show in Taskbar on new arrival). This app, with such enhancements, would make an excellent basis for a 'mail aggregator'. Challenge continues?
