Does plasma 5 have a search and launch desktop activity?

I'm normally using the file manager to find files but you could install kfind and then (for example) assign the META+F short cut.

alt+F2 ,,,,,and type anything ,,,,you will get results for everything.

Isn't this at least partially the netbook layout?
Because I'm pretty sure it isn't a regular KDE desktop.

Yes, that is the Search and Launch desktop containment, the default one for netbooks on kubuntu, but not present in Plasma 5.
Not sure if these layouts will be back or not.

Yes. Installing the plasma netbook package makes it available. Its useful on laptops with small screens.

Its part of KDE 4.
