I just upgraded to kubuntu 15.04 the other day. Having never seen Plasma 5 before, this thing is beautiful! But, I am having a variety of trouble using my external monitor with my laptop now:
1. I am trying to replicate my setup that I had with kubuntu 14.10 which was to use only the external monitor when it is plugged in, and return to the laptop display when the monitor is unplugged. IIRC, the laptop display would turn off when the external monitor was plugged in. I don't know how to set this up in the Kubuntu 15.04 Display Configuration, and I can't remember how I achieved it in 14.10.
2. When I have the monitor plugged in and I close the lid, the monitor goes blank. Upon opening the lid both the monitor and laptop display stay blank! When I hit the power button to shut the computer down, both displays wake up to display the "Kubuntu" splash before the laptop shuts off.
3. Also, various bits are crashing when I make monitor changes. Logging out and in fixes things, and sometimes I have to power cycle to resuscitate my displays.
Any suggestions?
More details:
laptop: ASUS G550JK (intel and nvidia 850m video)
video driver: nouveau (nvidia drivers were very glitchy)
monitor: Samsung SA850, displayport, 2560x1440
