    Where is screen saver in system settings?

    I can't find the screen saver in the new system settings. Where is it? (Not helped by the fact that System Settings crashes a lot.)

    You will need to install xscreensavers to get this functionality back.

    You can do some basic configuration of the screen locker in System Settings >> Workspace >> Desktop behavior

        So what gives with Vivid?

        I have only today installed Vivid and have not been following its history. I supposed (in my naivete?) that it was just an update of Trusty. But it seems to be much more. A number of things, such as the slideshow screensaver and kdegames, are entirely missing. Are these foreseen for sometime in the futrure?

        If I am right (not sure), I'm wondering why there was not some sort of warning issued for people upgrading to this version. It's always nice to know when applications you are used to are going to change.

        I have installed xcreensavers and do not find anything like the previous slideshow screensaver.

        Also, the fonts in Firefox and Thunderbird are quite ugly.

        Have I missed something?

        Thanks for your help and suggestions.

          I notice also that there is much (far too much) discussion concerning this subject. I find that xscreensaver does not contain a slideshow. What I want (and am used to) is a slideshow which starts after a certain number of minutes of inactivity and which can be configured to lock the computer or not. I do not understand at all why this has been done away with. I find it quite disagreeable when a new version of Kubuntu, which I suppose to be an upgrade, not a replacement, gets rid of a number of applications I was used to using without any warning.

            yes yes it dose ,,,,,kinda

            you can go to the "advanced" tab of screensaver preferences and in the "image manipulation" box tick the "chose random image" and then add the path to a local folder of images or a RSS feed URL ,,,,,,,,their is allso the "xscreensaver-screensaver-webcollage" screensaver package that dose a random word search for images and makes a collage on the screen of them (it comes with a warning about the web containing porn and you may get some in your collage ,,,but have had it running for 10 min now with a 30sec load time on new images and no porn as yet,,,,the word list is the local spell check dict.)

            the blank after,,,,cycle after and lock screen after timers are on the main "display moads tab . and dose work @hear on 15.04

            GLslideshow,webcollage and photopile work best for slideshow type screensaver.

            use
            Code:
            apt search screen saver
            to find all the xscreensaver extra modules

              Xscreensaver not bad

              It seems to do the job. Just one more question. How do I do to get it to come on automatically when I lock the screen manually?

              Do I have to start it up in a script somewhere?

              Thanks for your suggestions.

                I am sorry ,,,,,,,,,,but I will half to get back to this latter as I cant test things out right now !

                I made a ,,,,,,,? ,,,,,your to tired to be typing on the command line ,, mistake last night and rmed my ~/ the hole home directory one little space ,,,,,and poof gone .
                luckily all (well almost) my data is on a different drive with Documents,Downloads,Music,ect,ect liknked back to the /home/vinny so all my installs can use them.

                I'm in the process of reinstalling all my apps after doing a complete reinstall of the OS ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,which was an adventure in it's self as the installer would hang at 33% trying to format the partition ,,,,,,,finally I just did a "mkfs" on it and let the installer role out without formatting the drive ,,,,,,, this worked .

                as soon as I get all the xscreensaver stuff back in I will see if I can figure out how to do that

                OR if you beet me to it please post the way

                  I commiserate. I often wish rm would ask if I'm sure.

                    I found a solution. I put this in

                    /etc/xdg/autostart/screensaver.desktop

                    [Desktop Entry]
                    Name=Screensaver
                    Type=Application
                    Exec=xscreensaver -nosplash

                    It seems to work. Thanks for your suggestion.
