    [Not Quite] Post-Installation Failure

No joy installing 15.05 onto two Lenovo's, both AMD-64.

On my laptop, installation failed with 29 minutes left on 'Installing the upgrades', prior to cleanup. I lost the installer window unfortunately, so am unable to say where it hung.

On the desktop, installation failed with 28 minutes left, while configuring mime-support (amd64), or at least that was the last progress indicator written to the window.

I suspect they both gagged on the same thing considering the projected amount of time remaining.

The ubuntu servers are probably getting hammered right now, with all the new releases , so my bet is that is is hanging trying to download updates (that's the only time there is a 'time remaining' figure given during an install, I think) It might be worth it to try installing again, but not enabling those options at the beginning. Others here have reported better success this way.

Had the same problem when I tried upgrading with Muon (though I think it was 18 minutes left) - so I used "do-release-upgrade" in a root terminal instead. Thank I got further, to login, but hot the plasma problem. By the way, noticed that Muon was using "do-release-upgrader" (the "r" at the end) - don't know if that is of any significance.

Tried again today, 4/29/15, to upgrade Kubuntu 14.10 (AMD64) on both my laptop and desktop. Both installations hung ONCE AGAIN during the 'Installing the upgrades' phase, failing on 'Configuring mime-support (amd64)'.

Fool me twice, shame on me!! I'll take a pass on 15.04 and wait for 15.10. To boot, I can't understand the rabid raving about wonderful Plasma 5's Breeze style is - I find it to look amateurish and very difficult, within Dolphin for instance, to readily distinguish between files and folders. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but hopefully 15.10 will have some alternate Plasma Syles that will look half-way decent to this beholder.

Back to PartedMagic/Clonezilla to restore my backups of 14.10.
