Hibernate won't work from inside a session

    Hi

I've got a prob with Hibernate.

It works perfectly from a terminal session using

    sudo pm-hibernate

I've done all the confguration stuff so that "hibernate" shows in the power settings, from the initial logon screen and from "Leave" in the KMenu.

If I click "Hibernate" from the main logon screen it works as expected. If I initiate Hibernate whilst I'm logged onto a session it locks the screen, freezes up for about 20 seconds then just stays at the screensaver.

Any ideas on why this happens?

    This is Kubuntu 14.10

    Thanks

    Sam

Has it ever worked on this build?
Has it ever worked on this hardware with a different Kubuntu version?

I presume you can unlock the screensaver and carry on after it unfreezes.

It's probably one of the hardware drivers not responding correctly to the power instructions. Prime culprits seem to be display drivers, wifi or bluetooth. If you manually disable wifi and bluetooth before hibernating does it make a difference? For the display driver, what chipset do you have and what driver are you using? (If you can't answer that post back)
I'd rather be locked out than locked in.

      Hi,

I've only just started using hibernation on anything "Linux" so can't say if it's build specific.

Surely it can't be related to hardware or drivers as it works perfectly when initiated from a terminal window or outside of a logged-in session. It only fails if I try it when logged in.

I have trouble with suspend and hibernate unless I install the proprietary nvidia driver.

I just tried it and yes, it does work from a tty console. I presume the display driver is forced to a simpler mode by swapping to the console, and so it responds to power management commands ...

Try the "Driver Manager" and see if any special drivers are recommended.

Disclaimer: I have hibernate working fine ... but suspend has been a problem for several versions.
I'd rather be locked out than locked in.
