Booting to unresponsive desktop lately

The last couple weeks, Ive been booting into a completely dead desktop every other boot or so. I get to the login screen fine and can log in without trouble, but when the desktop loads, nothing works. The keyboard is dead and I cant click anything. Im pretty sure this started when I tried saving desktop sessions, but Im not sure about that. Any idea whats going on? What logs should I be looking at?

start with ~/.xsession-errors

and switch back to starting with a new session to see if it stops .

Went back to starting with a new session but nothing has changed. .xsession-errors shows nothing unusual.

I have noticed the exact same thing when trying to produce Impress.......thought it was just maybe me...
