Installin AMD Radeon driver

I have a Radeon HD 8510G video card. I downloaded the Linux 64 bit driver from amd.com. I run ./amd-driver-installer-14.501.1003-x86.x86_64.run and get the following output:

Created directory fglrx-install.1N1DSo
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing AMD Catalyst(TM) Proprietary Driver

And no installation window pops up like it does when I did this in Ubuntu.

I don't think there will be an installer window. Once the command prompt is back, it is done,I think. Did you get a prompt for your password? If you didn't use sudo when running the command, it probably did not install.

If it did not, I recommend going to system settings, and use the driver manager to install it, instead. Much easier, and made specifically for (k)Ubuntu.

Downloading and installing in this order:

fglrx-updates-core
fglrx-updates
fglrx-amdcccle-updates




Making the xorg.conf:

sudo amdconfig --initial

Uninitialised file found, configuring.
Using /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Saving back-up to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.original-0

Reboot - testing

:~$ fglrxinfo
display: :0  screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series 
OpenGL version string: 4.4.13374 Compatibility Profile Context 15.20.1013

Seems to work...
