SO ,,,,,,,I finally have a problem with my 14.04 install .

I haven't had net for a month now and just got a new time warner acct. ,,,,,,,,,,that is the good part , a nice 50MB/s line that tested out at 56-57 MB/s DL speed.

so I ran off updates on all my installs yesterday .

after updating the 14.04 install I can not get it to log me in to the GUI ,,,,,,,at the lightdm login screen I can type in my password and click the arrow and ,,,,,,,,nothing .

I can log in to the guest acct. just fine ,,,,,,

I have rm -rf'd the .Xauthority

I have reran updates from TTY6 ,,,,,yes I can log in to a TTY

I have ran "sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm"

none of this has worked to let me log in ?

any and all suggestions will be helpful

From a tty, have you tried running startx?

        Love it!

I sort of followed what you did, Vinny, and I would have been totally lost as well. (In fact, I don't know enough to be able to get myself that far lost.)

        What a simple solution!

Shows the value of this forum, no?

        Thanks, Snowhog.
