System Settings > Start up & Shut down and check Start with Empty Session (not at my Linux PC, so the description may not be exactly correct).
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Set to start with kde only. Empty session is not an option I can find. Will check later to see if the change worked. have to go to work now

You're looking at the wrong module.

Go to SystemSettings>Startup&Shutdown>DesktopSession>OnL ogin>"Start with an empty session"
(If you wish to keep restoring your session [to restore other running apps] you can also try excluding synergy from sessions)

Found it under session management. Reboot and that worked. Now if I can just lick this nvidia driver problem. But that's another thread
