    Problem viewing pictures

Ok, about a week ago there were updates. I updated but ever since then I'm unable to view pictures in any of my browsers. Chrome, chromium or firefox. I used to be able to get a picture in my email and click on it, it would open a new tab and show the picture in the new tab and now it won't but wants me to download it instead. Since its like this on all browsers it seems to me to be a system problem. Anyone experience this and does anyone know how to fix it?

I can't think of a system component affecting pictures that would be shared by firefox and chrome - unless it's network related.

Is this specific to email (I presume browser email)? What about images in sites like this one?

Actually - if it's only on clicking an image link - it could be something to do with mime type associations, and if it's affecting multiple browsers, it could be system level. If you pick an image type (like jpg) that doesn't open in the browser, what does System Settings > File Associations show for image/jpeg?
I'd rather be locked out than locked in.
