    laptop-mode-tools

I installed laptop-mode-tools on my desktop hoping it would run my disk down after 2 idle hours, but it didn't do that.
My disk doesn't support APM. Should I go for hd-idle instead?

What should the iconless entry "Laptop Mode Tools Configuration Tool" in the "System" menu do?
Now something starts, but no window opens. An entry in the task bar with rotating arrows emerges, remains there for a short while and disappears.
On the command line (lmt-config-gui) a window with selectable options open.

Perhaps try TLP instead? I've been using it for over a year now and find it to be more convenient -- many configuration items previously managed separately are all contained within a single well-documented settings file.
