    Problem with updates

Hi, can anyone help with this problem. Every update this comes up.

    initramfs-tools
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

    Kind regards - Michael

We would need more lines of the output you see when this happens. It could be nothing, but without seeing what was going on before, we can't really know.

A couple of places that could cause this are a full /boot or root partition, or a script in one package didn't run properly run, and the initramfs-tools could not run.

You can try cleaning things up and finish running any config scripts that did not run:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get autoremove
This will clean up some things, especially older kernels that put files in /boot (and is what initramfs-tools is re-configuring when new ones are installed/removed). It will automatically keep the 2 most recent kernels, so you are safe to follow the suggestions it gives, unless it wants to remove a huge number of packages, or obvious desktop-related stuff.

    Code:
    sudo dpkg --configure -a
This will run any scripts in packages that did not run successfully

    then, to be safe:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get -f install
which will install any missing packages that did not install for some reason

then a normal package and system update

    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

But more of the terminal output would be helpful --assuming this is where you are seeing this (you did not say)

Hi, thanks for your prompt reply, this occurs after an update. Not a terminal notice.
I tried sudo apt-get autoremove a couple of days ago which left me with 2 kernels the lasted one 13----46 where the mouse doesn't work and the older one which I'm using 13----40
I'm pretty sure this problem occured when I booted up with a faulty android phone was plugged in.

No, dist-upgrade does not upgrade you to a new version of Kubuntu. it has the ability to install new packages that may be required, which includes kernels and parts of new KDE releases. regular "apt-get upgrade" will not install anything new that wasn't already present on your system. Package managers do the dist-upgrade version when they update things.

        Code:
        update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.13.0-45-generic
        /etc/initramfs/post-update.d//[COLOR="#FF0000"][COLOR="#FF0000"][B]zz-flash-touch-initrd[/B][/COLOR][/COLOR]: 9: /etc/initramfs/post-update.d//zz-flash-touch-initrd: /usr/sbin/flash-touch-initrd: not found
        run-parts: /etc/initramfs/post-update.d//zz-flash-touch-initrd exited with return code 127
Now it looks like you have ubuntu-touch related things installed, this may be the part that is not able to complete. There are a small number oif bug reports reporting similar things from a few years ago; it looks to be breaking and interfering with normal initramfs-tools things.

I would try uninstalling initramfs-tools-ubuntu-touch and see if things go back to normal.

          Thanks for your help Claydoh,
I stupidly uninstalled initramfs-tools and not initramfs-tools-ubuntu-touch and it removed kernels and so much other stuff it became unusable, so I downloaded on another computer 1404-02 so as to reload and start again. Maybe not a bad move.
          kind regards - Michael
