    Problems after updates

    I took a big update the other day, listing all sorts of system tweaks (sorry, that is a rather general statement). Since then two issues appear:

    (1) I can't get updates using Muon Package Manager/Updater.

    --> It tells me This operation can't continue since proper authorization was not provided.
    (I was not asked for any PW.) I have tried this using the Updater icon in system tray, and by opening Muon and clicking Check for updates. Both give me that same message.

    (2) Thumb drives: Now, when inserting and safely removing, I am asked for my PW to authorize such actions. (I was never asked before.)

    Any ideas how to fix this?

    ... the PolicyKit got goodfed up? I'm reading at KDE about this now. Any ideas? Maybe I'll try a re-boot soon?

      I re-booted. I tried (1) and (2) above in post #1, and I had no problems this time. The problems may be fixed.

      In general:
      Does this sound like a PolicyKit KDE issue? I was unable to find PolicyKit settings under System Settings (in 14.04). Any tips re this general question would be welcome.

        I'm marking this as solved for now, assuming that the re-boot did the trick. I looked up my updates in Muon, and several things may have triggered these two problems, going back to 2-15-15.

        Never did locate PolicyKit for KDE in 14.04. Not in System Settings (I don't think). Googled it, others have had problems, too, going back to 2010; some mention of bug reports; some mention of devs dropping it. I do have files installed dealing with policykit for KDE (and for gnome). I did not study this very much further today.

          Do you do your 'updates' via Muon?
          Windows no longer obstructs my view.

            Yes, by Muon. I had the thought to try the command line to see how that would go, but instead just re-booted first, and that seemed to fix things. Had it not fixed thing, I would have tried the CLI way.

            PolicyKit: doesn't seem anyone knows about this, or is interested in it! It seems that may have been the culprit here (with Muon).
