Rotated wallpaper pictures in folder mode

Hi,

I have set my desktop to folder mode. As background I use a slide-show with many pictures taken at my daughters wedding.
Although most of the pictures show up great, just the way they should show up, several are rotated 90 degrees.
When I open the pictures, which are rotated on the desktop, in either program they all show up fine: people are standing up instead of laying down.
What can be the reason for the pics to show up rotated on my desktop and how do I solve this?

Thank you for your answer. I have installed a program called Phatch with which it is possible to change EXIF info. Well, it should be possible, but when I change the number for rotation it does not accept it.
I then made two copies of one picture which turns up wrong on screen and placed them in a separate folder. I opened one of the copies in Gwenview and rotated it there 90 degrees clockwise. Saved and exit. I looked at the rotation info of both pictures in Phatch and they are still the same:
EXIF_Image_Orientation: 8 (This parameter has a pencil next to it and should be changeable, but it doesn't work)
Orientation: 1
I set the wallpaper to the new test folder with the two pictures and one shows up wrong (original one) and one shows up right (rotated one)

Since many pictures show up rotated it is a hell of a job to correct all of them.

I read the bug report, it's from 2010. I Was hoping it would have been fixed by now.

A way to do it...

Gwenview - pick the pictures - Plugins > Images > Auto Rotate/Flip Using Exif information





It will rotate the picture so the application that couldn't use the exif information will show the picture correct way - with the birdy:

Thank you for your answer, really appreciate it.
Turns out, the pictures which are rotated on the desktop are not jpg files but raw files with extension jpg. Gwenview is not able to rotate those, so I guess I just have to move the pictures, which turn up wrong on the desktop, to another folder outside the one I use for showing the wallpaper pictures.
