    Kded crashes after login 14.04

I'm not sure if this is the place to post this but since the software update I ran on 11-05-14, my kded crashes whenever I log in. I've tried google for an answer to this but can't find a solution. I've ran an apt-get dist-update and that didn't help. I also can't run any Muon packages since those crash immediatly (which means no Muon update manager). The following is the crash report that was generated to assist those that are better at solving linux questions than myself and my googleing efforts:

    Application: kded4 (4.13.3)
    KDE Platform Version: 4.13.3
    Qt Version: 4.8.6
    Operating System: Linux 3.13.0-39-generic x86_64
    Distribution: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS

    -- Information about the crash:
    - What I was doing when the application crashed: Booting up my computer after the software updates on 11-05-14. Some updated that was incorporated along with the open office update is causing this. Never had this happen before.

    -- Backtrace:
Application: KDE Daemon (kded4), signal: Aborted
    Using host libthread_db library "/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libthread_db.so.1".

Are you connected to the Internet by wire/cable? If 'yes', then reboot. at the Grub menu press the down arrow once and press enter. At the next menu, select recovery to boot to a command line. From there, type: apt-get install -f and press enter. When it finishes, type: apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade. When it finishes, type: sudo shutdown -r now and press enter.

      Snowhog,

when I put in "apt-get install -f" I got the following:

W: Not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/kpkg/lock
E: Unable to write to /var/cache/apt/
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

I have no idea what this really means.

        Okay, use these commands:
        sudo apt-get install -f
        sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

I'm still getting the same warrning, error, error even when doing a sudo apt-get install -f.

I should also note that when in the grub menu, I go to advanced, pick the recover mode then a screen pops up that has the following:

          Recovery Menu (filesystem state: read-only)
          Resume
          Clean
          dpkg
          fsck
          grub
          network
          root
          system-summary

Granted this is a bit different from the instructions you had me do.
