Virtual desktop page too big

In previous versoins of KDE, the virtual desktop pager for 6 VDs was a 2x3 matrix which took up little space. Now it is a one-row block of rectanbles which takes up almost half of the bar along the bottom (whatever that is called).

Is there a way to configure it? I can't find one.

Right-click on the pager, choose pager settings, virtual desktops, desktops tab, set number of rows to 2... but surely you tried that.

Oops, I looked at that several times, but did not see the number of rows. The matrix is still much bigger than it used to be, but is much (in fact, 2 times) better.
