What happened to "sux"? Is it obsolete?

It was such a useful tool. And you could just type apt-get install sux and you had it.

You were able to run any (graphic/X11) program as another user (including root) from the shell.

What happened to it? I desperately need it.

        re

Danke. Gut, dass sich jemand meldet.

        Install bringt leider nicht viel:

        > ./sux
fish: No TTY for interactive shell (tcgetpgrp failed)
        setpgid: Inappropriate ioctl for device

        > ./suxterm

Man, it is heartbreaking to see sux go.

          I tried
          --------------------
I've been very sad too to see that there were no easy alternative to sux at first, but ended with this :
          • in /etc/pam.d/su, to forward xauth keys between users when calling su, add : session optional pam_xauth.so

            --------------------

Yes, this seems to work. But only for su. With sux you could do sux user for any user....

This is part of a grand and honoured tradition of useful software arbitrarily and without notice disappearing from the repos.

Do not complain about it, it's part of Ubuntu culture and any moaning etc is clearly indicative of a bad attitude on your part.

I actually predict that all of Ubuntu will eventually disappear in this manner, although it may take several decades!

Lol, wtf a driveby post simply to complain about Ubuntu, and about something that really has zero to do with Ubuntu at all?

Anyway, kdesudo/gksu/gksudo provide the same functionality as sux anyway, I believe.
