    14.04 LTS Vs. 14.10 ?

    14.04 LTS Vs. 14.10 ?

    Hi,

I've have Kubuntu 14.04 LTS 64Bit installed on my main two computers.
I see that Kubuntu 14.10 is set to release in late October.
My question is is there any benefit to installing 14.10 when I have 14.04 LTS?
(wont 14.04 LTS update to what 14.10 has?)
A typical reinstall of Kubuntu, applications, and Windows/Mac Virtual Machines takes me about 8 hours.

    Thanks!

    Jesse

Generally, if you need or want the latest KDE and Kernel versions you will want to upgrade. They eventually set up backports and you can get later kernels and some software, but you will not be cutting edge. For example, my server on 12.04.4 is using kernel 3.2.0-68 whereas my 14.04 desktop is using 3.13.0-35.

Bad news is 14.10 will require you to upgrade soon again (9 months) in order to continue to receive maintenance updates. If you like stability and don't need the latest and greatest all the time, stick with 14.04 for awhile. You can always upgrade later if you change your mind.
