Non-certificate update?

Muon told me this morning that there are updates, but also gave me the following message:

"The server failed the authenticity check (api.opendesktop.org).

The certificate has expired."
I've never seen that before, so I'm feeling a bit cautious about the update. Does anyone else have any experience with this?

I updated manually from Muon package manager and did not have any problems here.
As far as I can tell my Muon update manager stopped working a few weeks ago so I just update via package manager.

Are we using Muon Discover? It looks like the opendesktop.org cert is expired,. Opendesktop.org is where kde-look.org, gnome-look, and others are from, and this is where Discover gets its Plasma Widgets from. This is separate from the ubuntu repositories, so this will not effect normal software updates. If you are not comfortable seeing this error message, you can safely update using Muon Package Manager, the command line, or Synaptic, These don't get any software from opendesktop at all.

While not recommended, one can click the "continue" button and either temporarily or permanently allow it to update info from opendesktop, or just cancel and continue on.

Again, this does not affect the ubuntu repos used by apt, etc. It is just for third party plasma widgets, wallpapers, and such, so if you don't use that button at the bottom of Discover for them, you are OK.

I will guess that this will be fixed soon bu the opendesktop people.

did you all not read post#4 from claydoh ,,,,,,it is only muon discover that gives this ,,,,,,,NOT muon package manager NOT apt or apt-get ,,,,,,,you can do your updates/upgrades just wait for the certificate to get reissued before you use muon discover to get your widgets if you are worried about it.

ps I would not use muon discover to do updates anyway.

If you cancel out of the error, Discover will still work safely for ubuntu packages, which do not come from opendesktop. One will not be able to browse or install any plasma widgets using this tool until it is fixed on their end.

Also note that the Get Hot New Stuff (ie the Download New Widgets tool ) does not work either, due to this expired cert. We are safe to update our systems, folks

sory that I keep using disparaging language when it comes to muon discover ,,,,,,it's just leftover from the early days of it ,,,,and muon package manager when thay had Ummmm some querks
I do use muon package manager all the time now for finding and installing packages but still only do upgrades/dist-upgrade with "apt-get" .

and am realy liking the new "apt" for it's "apt search" and "apt show" features

but I promise I will start using muon discover more often to relieve my timidness of it ,,,,,,,,,

A solution is to use Synaptic to uninstall Muon Discover and to install or reinstall Muon Package Manager for updating. Curiously, MPM does not show any of the updates that Discover was showing, nor does apt-get update. Hmmm.

You don't have to uninstall Discover, unless you want to.
If you are not seeing updates, it is highly likely that they were installed when you were running Discover or the updater, or rather the qapt subsystem that Discover, the updater, and Muon Package Manager share.



Anyway, it looks like opendesktop have renewed the cert. The scary has passed.
