share virtualbox between win7 and ubuntu 14

This may sound like a strange thing to do. I want to (if possible) share vms created in virtualbox under windows with virtualbox running under trusty tahr. I can share my thunderbird profile (fairly easy), but not sure about vb.

    Any ideas or pointers?

Windows is on sda2, ubuntu on sdb2, and data files are on sdc1. There is plenty of room on any drive to make a dedicated vb partition

In theory, it should work. VirtualBox creates an abstraction layer that the virtual machines think is hardware. This layer is independent of the underlying hardware and the operating system running on that hardware. The challenge is where to put the virtual drive -- you'll need a file system that both Windows and Linux can read from and write to. I'd recommend creating a partition and formatting that with exFAT. Windows 7 supports this natively. You'll need to install exfat-fuse and exfat-utils in Kubuntu.
