    Panel launcher not functioning

Any help or suggestions appreciated in advance!

I am having trouble getting an application to launch from the panel. I've attached a text file which I use very frequently to the panel (tried attaching through several different methods). Whenever I click this launcher, the "bouncing file" icon will appear for a moment, and the file will show up as loading in the task manager panel for a moment, indicating it is indeed attempting to load the application/file. Unfortunately it never opens.

I have recently made the upgrade to 14.04 from Saucy (fresh installation, made from base install with kde-plasma-desktop and other packages added, this was the way my previous installation of 13.10 was also done).
    It's Ubuntastic!

How did you add the launcher? I just did a test. I dragged the file from Dolphin to the desktop/panel. It made an icon and opened just fine.

Another problem you might be having is default applications. Right click on the icon and click Properties > File Type Options. Form there you can set your defaults.

Well, I completely redid the entire thing.

I created a new empty panel. I added a folder icon and a file icon, both by dragging and dropping them onto the panel from dolphin. The folder icon works fine. The same problem with the text file persists. I checked the file type options and everything seems to be in order. NOW GET THIS WIERDNESS! I tried it with a different text file, and everything works just fine!! It's some kind of wierd file corruption i'd guess, because I can open and edit, save, etc the file through dolphin normally. So I copied all my text from the old file, pasted into a new one, saved and now I'm good to go!

So thanks for making me rethink the problem from a different angle!

If you don't mind my curiosity, what were the names of the file that had trouble and the file that worked?
