Import passwords from another 14.04 system

Having just installed Kubuntu 14.01 on a new hard drive I would like to import these settings from my old system (which is available as a second HD on my computer).

Kwallet has two import functions first .kwl file. Having exported my old wallet to 'old.kwl' importing I get error code 9 - possibly incorrect password.
I'm using the same password on both systems.

The xml imports some data (46 items under the 'Form Data' tab) but still have to re-enter login name & password

    Any help would be appreciated

    Hi bill

The devs of Kwallet, after watching a lot of heated debate about storing passwords and whether the user should be able to edit them, some of the distros do not allow it, opted to display your passwords in clear text since people who are using Linux are probably "aware" of security and are intelligent.

However........they BURIED ... the folder so that a casual passerby would probably not be able to change it easily.

The "best" .... yes there is no best... security you have is to have a password to get into the OS and have the screen blank time set at maybe five minutes in case you are away from the machine.

So, the Kwallet folder is in

System Settings / KDE Wallet / at the bottom right "Launch Wallet Manager" / Contents tab / Password (number of passwords inside) , notice it is in red meaning you are in root mode / click the subfolder down arrow / Passwords(in text) / Akonadai Dav resource / "show contents" /

and you can view the passwords as plain text.

    Now....give all of the above.....

    a) you won't be able to view the "kwallet" password, but you can view the normal passwords on the machine.

    b) OTHER passwords, such as for the forum, your e-mail clients, etc. will not be viewable,

so... if the passwords that are viewable are the culprits then one can change them. The others should not be the problem since they "handshake" with external places, and if the work in one place they should work in the other...

unless there really is a problem in the export in some manner.

another option might be to just export the passwords again , delete the "old" folder and import again.

Do this in both systems and compare, editing can be done as root.

if the above quick fixes do not work then please wait for somebody more experienced to pop along like Steve, or GG or the like

Does it import it into the current wallet, or into a separate one?

Actually, you could just copy your entire ~/.kde folder and get all your KDE settings and data back
Specifically, ~/.kde/share/apps/kwallet and ~/.kde/share/config/kwallet* are the files you need to do it manually.
I wonder if the password error is due to the new pam/kwallet integration where you don't need to set up a kwallet password anymore. I can't import either, unless I use the xml as the export, due to the password problem.
