Amarok Not Playing Streams [kubunti-full vs livecd install]

For my home machine I installed from a ubuntu server disk and the kubuntu-full package. (Wanted to use raid to mirror my home drives).

For my laptop I installed from a kubuntu live cd.

Amarok plays the stream from animenfo.com/radio just fine on the laptop... but doesn't work on the desktop, no errors, just doesn't load.

Any ideas?

Still doesn't quite work. Sometimes it plays, but if I pause it I have to reload amarok for it to start again.

Well, I went to the site:

http://www.animenfo.com/radio/nowplaying.php

Unfortunately I could not find a .pls file which is what most players want.

I went to the help page which is, by ANY standards, VERY extensive, and there were suggestions about clicking the url in Firefox and then "open with" and that wasn't happenin, I did "inspect element" multiple attempts.

So, I fell back on my old standby:

Go to "Shoutcast" and type in the name of the site which is:

animenfo

This gave, for me, three returns.

I right clicked on the "url", in bold black below, which presented the interactive hand:

That then gave the normal variety of options and I chose "save link as".

That then went into downloads which presented as a .pls:

tunein-station.pls

I then right clicked with and chose "open with Amarok.

It started playing immediately with the following:

The title and the source station was presented in the information box.
Lyrics: Not found
Kokia - Wikipedia the free encyclopedia
information

Kokia (plant) genus of flowering plants in the Malvaceae family
Kokia (singer), a Japanese singer

It automatically went to the next track that had been requested by people on the site which was:

fripSide

The wikipedia information was QUITE extensive about the band and also had an album cover of some kind with a sword. in white on orange.

So, it may seem kludzy but I quite often have to do this because of the way that a lot of sites set things up.

They, basically, want you to listen by looking at their site.

I would GREATLY recommend that you actually do the download and save it with the name of the site, and do that with any and all sites because of the DRM wall that is being built around the U.S.

so, hope this helped some and if anyone has further questions please ask.

Interesting site by the way, I had never heard of it and will play it before class starts - finals next week!

I try to play something different before every class to engender a world view to music for the students. ( And I don't teach musicI teach physical science/chem and bio in a biotechnology community college btw) lol

The listen page has m3u files. Note these WORK FINE on my laptop which is kubuntu 14.04 upgraded from a 13.10 kubuntu livecd. I can consistently play them, stop them, and restart them without restarting amarok.

These same files only behave half the time on the desktop, which was installed with a 13.10 ubuntu server disk, installed kubuntu-full and kubuntu-extended extras, and upgraded to 14.04. Even when the stream loads correctly when amarok starts up, if I pause the stream I HAVE to kill amarok before the stream will play again.

So, I don't really need an "alternate method" of getting to the stream. I want someone who might have an idea of whats different between the two installs.

Also, I actually have harder times getting .pls streams working in amarok than m3u streams.

the debug lines on a working machine had a function call instead of the MPRIS2 line, I apt-get purged and reinstalled for a third time, and now it's behaving... I still don't know what it was doing though... so if it does it to you, and the first purge doesn't work, try again... I know it makes no since but there it is.

Well, I have no clue, as I said, but quite often, and this goes back years... I've had to restart several times to get some oddment of thing, like a printer driver, to work, but you have provided valuable info for the next person, thanks!
