Cannot install - partitioning broken

I just wanted to install the official Trusty release, but creating encrypted physical partitions in the installer fails with "An error occurred while creating the keyfile". Any suggestions for a workaround?

And what happened to text-mode install? In my experience that used to work far more reliably ...

It is advised to install on unencrypted partitions, then, after the system is installed and fully dist-upgraded, encrypt your /home partition.

Actually I'm aiming for full-disk encryption. I can create and open the LUKS container for the yet-to-be-installed / in the background, and the Trusty installer will install into the resulting /dev/mapper "partition".

The problem is that I can't figure out how to setup the initramfs so that the container will be unlocked when booting the installed system. The old installer used to handle this automatically.
