Kubuntu wants to use my hdmi sound that's built into the video card - but I want it to use the built in audio - because the keyboard volume control will then work ok. In the settings I can check the check boxes but it immediately reverts back to the hdmi. It used to work fine until I put in a video card. So if anybody knows the answer or answers - I would like to hear.

You have to set the device priority in System Settings, just like you do in KDE 4
You can also move an audio source to a specific sound device using the systray widget using drag and drop.
it should remember your preference for that application.

Well - the solution I found was to install Pulse Audio Volume control - and dither a bit with it. And now it all works fine.Comment
