OK just to be sure run a
      Code:
      sudo apt-get -f install
probably wont do anything or you would have gotten errors hear ,,,,,,the headers
"linux-headers-4.4.0-98" was frome the kernel that was beeing installed on the borked update ,,,,so never got installed ,,,and is probably why it's not trying to install now
      because the headers are .

you have removed a lot of stuff "kernel headers" so you should reboot first ,,,,,but do this first and let me see it .

      Code:
      dpkg -l | grep 4.4.0-97

He still has a boatload of 3.1* and 4.4 (prior to -97) on his system.

I think it's due to his having installed the *-generic-lts-xenial package, which, IIUC (if I understand correctly) installs all the kernels!

I didnt want hime to reboot befor I saw the

                  dpkg -l | grep 4.4.0-97

and after the reboot do the "autoremove --purge

Now? When I reboot, do I first need to "save" all my Konsole cmds / results somehow for reference?

cool ,,,,,,now for the sake of lerning something LOL do the
                          Code:
                          df -h
one more time and post it .

                          then do
                          Code:
                          sudo apt-get autoremove --purge
it will take a long time ,,,,,you have a lot of kernels to remove .

then after it's done you can do another "df -h" and see just how much space thay were taking up .
