Your problem might be using upgrade instead of dist-upgrade.
So, instead of apt-get upgrade, use apt-get dist-upgrade.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Not bad.
Try this:
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo dpkg --configure -a
If you still get errors try:
sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/kernelname*
cd /var/cache/apt/archives
sudo rm kernelname*
for each kernel, then
apt-get --reinstall install kernelname
for each kernel.
(Replace "kernelname" with the actual name shown in error listing.
I would keep only the two most recent kernels and remove the rest.
