I also allowed Muon to have its way and remove the unnecessary files which were the other kernel. I'd rather have two but I thought that maybe having two was somehow mucking something up. Plus the partition that Linux is on is rather full and that would free up space.

    I haven't tried a reboot.

Windows does have various reset/restore modes; e.g., on laptops, too. Some can take time. Linux, in a sense, has a quick restore mode: simply reinstall it! Piece of cake, and relatively quick. Reconfiguring takes time, but that is a sunk cost in both Win and Linux.

So I am not back to being able to reboot without the 2 inch line from top to bottom. It takes a few reboots until I get a clean boot and right now i have a good desktop.

I ran Muon update and found some updates, because of the problems I am having, I chose cautious upgrade. This is what I got on a cautious upgrade. I notice it does say 14.04 and that begs the question --- why doesn't grub say 14.04? Should grub say 14.04?

      Code:
