    Icon issues

I've lost my network connection icon! It should be where the circle is:

If I hover over that blank space it does show my network connection info, it's just missing its icon.

Also, the icons for volume, battery, etc. (between xeyes and color picker) are much larger than I like; here's how they look on another laptop:

I have the exact same icons in /usr/share/kde4/apps/desktoptheme/default/icons on both laptops.

    Any ideas?

After a recent package update? Maybe a caching issue.

No. It's a brand new, fresh install on a new laptop. It's the System76 I borked; I wiped U 14.04 off of it and started fresh with K 14.04.

Totally wiped, as in the /home partition as well?

Is the icon set to hidden or auto?

Wiped, wiped. As in the entire drive formatted and then partitioned the way I wanted it. I only had the laptop for a few hours when I borked it, so there was nothing in $HOME to worry about saving.

Neither. It's set to 'always visible.' Keep in mind the widget is there--it's just not showing its icon.

I have an idea. Resize your panel ... bigger... then back to the size you want. Did you see the icon at all during the resize? This has worked for me in the past when I had invisible icons. I don't know why it worked.

                  Nope. No luck.

Which plasma theme are you using? Many use their own icons for the systray, etc. Perhaps this theme has a broken/missing icon in it

So, does this happen with a different plasma desktop theme?

Yes. I tried several, then even logged out and back in, even tried restarting just for the hell of it...no change, it's still missing. It's also missing now for other users.

I just noticed the custom icon theme (blind I be!), specifically the device manager icon in the first image.

Normally, user installed icons/themes would go in ~/.kde/share/icons and ~/.kde/share/apps/destoptheme. I am not sure if systray icons are part of an icon theme, though.

I'm using my favorite icon set, which I carry from computer to computer; its name is MIB-Ossigeno.

I don't think they are. However, just in case--and to continue my testing and tweaking--I copied its network-related icons over to /usr/share/kde4/apps/desktoptheme/default/icons, logged out and in, and...NOTHING. No change. Still no network connection icon.
