    Strange icon behaviour

I started having a strange behaviour from Kubuntu, apparently it does not properly apply the icon set that I have chosen. My favourite set is KFaenza, and I've used it since a lot of time. All of a sudden, some of them are not displayed correctly, and the system falls back to the default Oxygen theme for those particular icons.

As an example, I'm posting a screenshot from Kate:

As you can see the icons for "New", "Open", "Save" and some others are not from Kfaenza icon set but from Oxygen.

I've tried to reinstall the icon set to rule out any accidental file deletion/corruption or bad configuration, but it didn't solve anything. As you can see from the following screens, the correct icons are present in their directory, but for some strange reason they are not used. And this happens also with every other icon sets installed on my system.

What went wrong? How can I restore the icons to their set defaults?

    Maybe ?

The KDE is caching things to the

    /var/tmp/kdecache-<USERNAME>/
    alternative path:
    ~/.kde/cache-<HOST_NAME>/

Sometimes the cache files get damaged so the KDE can't read them properly. When the KDE can't read the cached information it will fall back to the default (icon theme) information.

The cache can be purged so the KDE can build a new one.

    1) Change the icon theme to the default
    2) Remove the icon-cache.kcache file
    3) Change the icon theme back to the wanted theme.

    (icon theme leo-like-v8)

    More powerful alternatives...

    - Remove all files/directories from the cache.
    or
    - Log out from the KDE and clean the cache when the KDE is not running.
