    Pls help... [After booting from Windows8] Unable to find bootloader to KUBUNTU 14.04

    Dear All Seniors,

    I'm nubie (& low-tech guy, also). I just installed KUBUNTU 14.04 in VAIO - SVF14212SG (with OS Windows8 installed).
    For brief info: during installation KUBUNTU, I in UEFI mode & Secure Boot is OFF.

    Installation ran well, I able to use KUBUNTU 14.04 for the 1st time.
    In bootloader, also show option for Windows8 boot.

    But after I chosed Windows8 (then turned off) & later on I turn on the comp/ntbook, the bootloader is gone/vanish.

    Please help me to fix this problem
    And if you, Seniors, dont mind, please explain in detail steps coz i'm low-tech guy...

    Many thank... _/l\_

    Turn on your computer, boot in to windows and do a restart (not shutdown). See what happens.

        @mr_raider :
        Thx u for ur reply.
        I already tried your suggestion, but still there is no appearance of the bootloader.
        It's straight booting to Windows.
        Any idea, mate?

          Go back into your laptops firmmware, and carefully inspect the boot order and boot options. My guess is that the firmware is defaulting to the windows bootloader instead of the ubuntu bootloader. See if you can override that. Some Asus PCs have an option called "Boot other OS".

            Try Boot Repair. I used it for exactly the same problem once with Kubuntu 13.10. It worked flawlessly and quickly. The details and instructions are here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair.

              I also tried "how to install Kubuntu" from Youtube & the result?? still the same

              Yes, I already tried couples of times using that Boot-Repair.
              When it restarted, it showed the "correct" bootloader (showing Kubuntu & Windows boot option).
              BUT after restarted again (wheter I chosed Kubuntu or Windows previously), bootloader went missing again.

              You could checked the my result during boot-repair installation : http://paste.ubuntu.com/7629351/

                          The above was not meant to resolve the issue, only to diagnose it. You need to understand how UEFI install works. At the end of the install, the installer writes the name of the new boot entry in the machine motherboards NVRAM so that it knows where to boot from. In your case, it was successful since you see the entry 0000 for Ubuntu. However note teh boot order. 0003 which is windows, has taken precedence over grub, so the motehrboard will bott windwos 1st, given the choice.There are several ways to rectify this:The easiest is to back in to your motherboard's BIOS and look for the right settings. Look for UEFI boot order, or default boot device, and change it so that ubuntu comes before windows. If that doesn't work, you can manually manipulate the boot order:Go back in to teh live CD as above and re-install efibootmgr as before. This time run the following command:[CODE}sudo apt install efibootmgsudo efibootmgr -v[/CODE]And check the bootnumber for windows and ubuntu (grubx64). Then set the bootnumber by putting grub first;
                          Code:
                          sudo efibootmgr -o 0000,0003
                          If it works, reboot the PC a 2 or 3 times in succession to see if it holds.rub first;sudo efibootmgr -o 0000,0003If it works, reboot the PC a 2 or 3 times in succession to see if it holds.

                              Mate,

                              Before I input the code (as you mentioned) : sudo efibootmgr -o 0000,0003

                              I checked the those bootnumber(s) still the same as previous :
                              Boot0000* Ubuntu HD(3,363800,82000,d505d5ea-2c80-4aad-9216-932e38416b9d)File(\EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi)RC
                              and
                              Boot0003* Windows Boot Manager HD(3,363800,82000,d505d5ea-2c80-4aad-9216-932e38416b9d)File(\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\bootmgfw.efi

                              Later after I input that code, I checked/diagnozed again, restrated, and the result still the same (booting to Windows).
                              Or did I miss something during this step?
                              Pls teach me...
