I don't think it did anything.

No mouse plugged it, sudo modprobe -r usbhid, then plugged the Genuis one, and still stuck. Switching to g9x unstucks it.

Mine does that, too. When I check System Monitor (KSysGuard), Firefox seems to be running in the background (even though I have shut it down). I've blamed it on Firefox (or some Firefox integration), but I'm not sure. I'm still investigating. The problem occurs on a wide variety of hardware for me.

Certainly whenever I can manage to do a hard kill of Firefox (sudo killall firefox), the system seems to go back to normal.

On one laptop, rtkit-daemon seemed to be the problem. It seemed to be constantly spawning new processes which froze. However, when I did all the updates, that particular problem (so far) seems to have disappeared.

I have more freezes with Trusty than with any preceding version since Intrepid.

Right now the killer is being surrounded by a web of deduction, forensic science,
and the latest in technology such as two-way radios and e-mail.
