What I do know is that the wireless caard is disabled and there is no link output below

    *-network DISABLED
    description: Wireless interface

    bus info: pci@0000:03:00.0
    logical name: wlan0

    serial: 00:1e:65:db:56:10
    width: 64 bits
    clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wireless
    configuration: broadcast=yes driver=iwlwifi driverversion=3.13.0-43-generic firmware=8.83.5.1 build 33692 latency=0 link=no multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11abgn
    resources: irq:48 memory:f4300000-f4301fff

I have tried to modprobe and it always fails I been looking at the ubuntu wifidocs. I aldo know that the card is supported in the kerrnal but that is my limit. Thinking if I can not figture this out I will just reinstall it after I try it that seems to install the driver.

Yes output states that software is blocked but how does that happen and how do I unblock it? I want to lrean this kind of issue so I can hopefully fix it in the future.

        0; phy0; Wireless LAN
        Soft blocked yes
        Hard blocked no

I tired to unblock it by
          sudo rfkill unblock all

which I typed rfkill list again and it was not blocked till I rebooted. lspci -v states that the
kernel driver in use is iwlwfi

Update I did this command to see if it was blocked grep -r "ath5k" /etc/modprobe.d

          came back with

etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ath_pci.conf # which cannot recover. To prevent this condition, stop

I figure I got to unblacklist it but I try that and I am not that good with commands in the shell as yet

I decide to reinstall the system and try Kubuntu than install that seems to get the wireless running.

Update the wireless is now working I think that the driver is on the live dvd.
