network connections applet missing from system tray

    Hello,

I have a kubuntu 14.04 system that was upgraded from 13.04 then 13.10. The network connections applet had gone missing after the 13.10 upgrade, and when I upgraded to 14.04 it was still gone.

Further, in 13.10 I got a notification that an applet had crashed. In 14.04, I do not get any warnings.

When I log into my desktop, I get a notification that my wireless network has connected, and indeed I still have internet access. But, I cannot make any changes without that applet in the system tray.

How do I get that applet to show up in my system tray? Is there a command that will launch it? Is there a log that will contain error messages? Is there a configuration file to fix?

    Thanks

Right-click on the little arrow on your system tray, and select "System Tray Settings". Check to make sure that under Extra Items, "Network Management" is present, and has a check mark next to it.

If it is not, check to see if you have the package plasma-nm installed.

Thank you, I found that the network management icon had simply become unchecked. Great!
