I am a relatively new user of 14.04 on a Lenovo Y510P.
The saga begins a few months ago, when I noticed that plugging in my headphones to the headphone jack did not disable the computer speakers, as I expected would happen. Sound was emitted from the headphones in addition to the built-in speakers. I searched forums for a fix and found the following article: http://askubuntu.com/questions/15088...s-and-speakers. I attempted to follow the instructions shown in the "Original Solution," but reached a snag halfway through the process. I think something went wrong with step 3; I was left with only "Dummy Output" available as an Output Device on PulseAudio. I did not have the time to attend to this issue until now, a few months after it started, so I apologize for the lack of details regarding where exactly things went wrong - quite simply, I forget. However, I would be happy to provide the output for any and all diagnostic code you would like to run.
I would greatly appreciate having my audio back, and perhaps an explanation of what went wrong as well - I've been using Linux for six months now and hope to add to my skill-set.
Thanks,
- Raj
