Hello,
obviously Kubuntu 14.04.3 LTS is good for a surprise toot. I am using the multifunction device Canon MG 2500 series for printing and scanning. Printing is no problem. Even scanning was no problem until yesterday. I only had to make sure that the scanning software Xsane started right after I turned on the scanner. But now the scanner is no longer recognized. What can I do?
today I reinstalled Kubuntu 14.04.3 LTS completely. Even the preferences files in "home" I deleted by formatting. Everything is like a virgin. but the scanner is not recognized. What can I do?
Today I found out the following:
"http:linux.die.net/man/1/sane-find-scanner" gives fist hints. In the console I typed and executed "sane-find-scanner". And i got the following :
# sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
# result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
# scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.
# No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
# you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

# No USB scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
# you have loaded a kernel driver for your USB host controller and have setup
# the USB system correctly. See man sane-usb for details.
# Not checking for parallel port scanners.
# Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
# can't be detected by this program.
# You may want to run this program as root to find all devices. Once you
# found the scanner devices, be sure to adjust access permissions as
# necessary.
With "man sane-usb" I got more hints. The folders and files (with insufficient permissions) above I found in "dev/bus/usb". With "Properties" in Dolphin I could see and edit the permissions. But they won't be stored. Similar is the hint that "chmod a+rw /dev/bus/usb/Verzeichnis/Datei" is not permanent. How I can solve the problem with "udev" I could not find out. I would be happy about some help.
Regards, Sigurd
