I can't this to work at all. Maybe I am doing it all wrong.

Reviews for this webcam are not very good - bad in fact. A quick Google search didn't find anything helpful on this webcam and Ubuntu Linux. As to suggestions, give serious consideration to purchasing a Logitech webcam, as they are generally well supported in Linux, and can be gotten for not much money.
