I just purchased this Chromebook and installed Kubuntu 14.04 Trusty via Crouton.
Before I start explaining my issues, I'm going to throw out there that I know nothing about Linux whatsoever. I know very minimal commands and that's about it, so if you have any ideas, please be very specific.
In Multimedia Settings I have 4 audio playback devices. 3 of which work when I click test sound.
- Chromium OS Audio Server
- Default
- Default ALSA Output (currently Chromium OS Audio Server)
- byt-max98090
byt-max98090 is the one that does not work when I click test sound. It gives me the error message...
failed to set the selected audio output device
My problem is that I have no sound in applications. No sound in Firefox when going on YouTube, and no sound in the game Team Fortress 2. I've already tried a few things. I've tried going into alsamixer and turning up the the sound and that didn't work.
I also tried just installing alsabase after removing it pulseaudio and alsabase.
(for the record, everything I've done and tried has all been tutorials, no clue what anything is)
I'm not sure if I need the correct drivers or if I even have any at all. From what I hear it's really hard to figure out how to install drivers at least for someone who has no expiernce in linux at all.
If any of you have any ideas and help me troubleshoot this, I would be very grateful.
- Joshua
EDIT: Also, I do get system sounds. LIke notifications etc.
EDIT: New information, Default and Default ALSA Output are the only 2 devices, when tested, that show volume in pulseaudio volume control. Like when I click test on those 2 devices and it plays the sound, volume control shows that it's working and getting louder, etc.
