My Kubuntu 14.04.2 with kernel 3.16.0-33-generic won't shut down on my Acer Aspire E3-112-C43A.
Everything else seems to work fine, except for shutdown, sleep and hibernate. Even from a terminal, "sudo shutdown -P now" brings me to the kde splash screen, but not to power off. However, if I start recovery mode and go directly to a system prompt, "shutdown -P now" works, so I don't think it's a hardware or bios problem.
The distro System-Rescue-Cd also shuts down normally. An older Kubuntu 14.04 with kernel 3.13.0-45-generic, which I can run from a different disk, also shuts down normally, and sleep works fine on that system. If I setup grub to start this kernel in the current distro (14.04.2), video is completely messed up, but it shuts down normally.
