Realtek RTL8192CU USB wireless dongle not working

    Kubuntu 14.04

It was working but would often drop. Did some research and found the driver in Ubuntu 14.04 needs updated.

    Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0b05:17ab ASUSTek Computer, Inc. USB-N13 802.11n Network Adapter (rev. B1) [Realtek RTL8192CU]

If followed the instructions for Ubuntu 14.04 here...

    hi,

this might not be helpful but my experience has been that with usb adapters it's easier to get another compatible one,
i found dlink works for me with no fuss (kubuntu 14.4)
tplink not so, asus pcix nope

Actually the Asus USB-N13 was the new adapter I bought hoping it would work. I realize the Realtek wireless chipset doesn't play nice with Linux.

Can I get some specific brands and model #'s that work?

ah ok, i have an Asus pci-x that worked on install but stopped shortly after, i did have a google etc.
but have some usb dongles about the place and that fixed it for me.
the one that i've had no problems with is a Dlink N300, my kubuntu server was 100% PnP with this one (tested for a couple of days, with no additional software required)

thats just my experience, im no guru, i just manage to hack my way through
