    Mouse not working correctly

I have a Microsoft witless laser mouse 5000. Date of manufacturer is April 2009. In games I can mouse scroll left, right, up but not down also some things on the bottom of the screen will not select. The mouse wheel doesn’t function the way the games say it should. Firefox and Steam for Linux forums scroll too fast and trying to adjust the mouse in System Settings has no effect. I suspect the mouse wasn't set up properly. How do I check this and fix it?

Yes I did try the search, several times but it was no help.
Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

Those with that problem have reported that one solution, a work-a-round, is: after the Kubuntu desktop has finished its bootup and is displaying properly, unplug the mouse receiver, wait a few seconds, and plug it in again.

I will try that work around later. It seems like if many people have that problem then shouldn't the Ubuntu devs make a perminate fix?

Did you try the permanent fix created by Paul Richards on that thread? Just wondering, it was updated in 2014. http://sourceforge.net/projects/resetmsmice/files/

That seems to have fixed the wheel problem but the mouse down scroll still doesn’t work.
