Spik#, I attempted to read your mind but my crystal ball was a little too cloudy to help. Could you supply more specific details, error msgs, dmsg output, etc...?

So if I understand correctly you ARE able to get Xsane to run but it doesn't access your scanner?

The proper way to find out is to start the program from the command line, this will show you various messages about the software and hardware.
So open a terminal, Konsole is fine, and type xsane and see what happens, it should come up with a small window showing the progress in finding a scanner.
Would there be a supported scanner and Xsane does come up clicking the Xsane buttons might throw useful error messages in the Konsole.
