A few days ago I had some malware show up in my Chrome browser in my windows install, unfortunately I haven't had time to try and clean it out. Then today, it showed up in my Kubuntu version of Chrome. I have searched and found several ways to remove it from windows, but nothing for Kubuntu. It's the [WebIsGreat WebSearch] virus/malware. Any ideas?

Purge whatever you installed that put this on. Purge Chrome. Delete all your chrome related configs and folders. Install a replacement. Don't install programs from untrusted sources.
I recommend SR Ware Iron browser, It's a version of Chromium with most of the Google tracking stuff turned off.
I'm very curious as to how you got this web-redirect (not really a virus) installed into Linux? I wonder if it attached itself to your Chrome in windows and synced itself into Linux when you logged into your account.

The automatic syncing featues of Chrome are useful but a little bit creepy. When I use Chromium now I never log in.
Is this the browser you mean? https://www.srware.net/en/software_s...n_download.php ? thanks for sharing it, I haven't heard of it before!

Yeah. The linux version is here: http://www.srware.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=7257
It lags Chrome just a tad (weeks not months) but seems more stable to me and a bit quicker. I'm not a paranoid about 'net tracking but I figure why not avoid some of it when it's as simple as using a different browser.
